The Pearl

I just finished The Pearl (1945) by John Steinbeck. Wow.

I've read a bunch of Steinbeck before, but somehow missed this one until now. It's really short, so there's no excuse to skip it. If you haven't read it, do yourself a favor and do so.

I listened to the audiobook, which was read by Héctor Elizondo. Holy shit, can this guy read! I mean, sure, he's a professional actor and everything, but zounds! It was just a joy to listen to.
