The River Has Roots
I just finished The River Has Roots (2025) by Amal El-Mohtar. Wonderful! Just wonderful!

It's a fairy tale. I almost wrote it's like a fairy tale, but that's not right. It is a fairy tale. A real one.
I listened to the audiobook read (and sung!) by Gem Carmella. Absolutely lovely! And, apparently, the author and her sister sing on it as well!
"Oh what is stronger than a death? Two sisters singing with one breath."
Also, there's a bonus story at the end, "John Hollowback and the Witch." I guess there's a book of short stories coming up and they stuck a preview on here? Fun!
Update (2025-05-07): The book of short stories is Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories and comes out 2026-03-24.
