Barchester Towers
I just finished Barchester Towers (1857) by Anthony Trollope. Terrific!

This is a follow up to The Warden (1855). Eventually, there totalled six books in the Chronicles of Barsetshire. I don't know if I will read them all, but perhaps I shall. The first two are very enjoyable.
Apparently, there was an adaptation of these first two books on Masterpiece Theatre in 1982 called "The Barchester Chronicles." It introduced us to Alan Rickman as Mr Slope.

I'll definitely have to look for that!
Update (2025-04-07): I've just finished watching the seventh and final part of the "The Barchester Chronicles" (1982). Splendid! It was really quite well done. I couldn't have enjoyed it more.
The adaptation was written by Alan Plater and directed by David Giles. I found it masterful.
"Unless you wish to be ruined quietly" – Nigel Hawthorne as Archdeacon Grantly
"If I'm to be ruined, I would much rather be ruined quietly." – Donald Pleasence as Mr Harding
"If they arrive, I will indeed give them your message. And if they do not arrive, I will take the liberty of not giving them the message." – Paddy Ward as Hotel Waiter
"Morality? What has that to do with the law?" – Michael Aldridge as Sir Abraham Haphazard
"I find her rather…swarthy." – Susan Hampshire as La Signora Madeline Vesey Neroni
"Mrs Bold, Miss Bold, and young Master Bold. I am quite overcome with your boldness." – Alan Rickman as Obadiah Slope
"The archbishop! That's even bigger than a bishop, isn't it?" – Peter Blythe as Bertie Stanhope
I watch Masterpiece Theatre often and I usually enjoy it, but I can't remember enjoying a series quite as much as this in quite some time. Well done all!
