Godmersham Park
Last night I finished Godmersham Park (2022) by Gill Hornby. Lovely!

This is a novel based on a bunch of real people (one of whom is, of course, Jane Austen). I gather there was a great deal of very thorough research, but then the rest was just made up. For example, almost nothing is known of the real Anne Sharp before her arrival at Godmersham Park; all of that was invented. But it's terrific historical fiction because it could have happened. Things like that did happen to people in 1800.
I have not read Hornby's Miss Austen (2020), which I take it is along the same lines. Perhaps I shall!
