The Two Mrs. Carrolls

Last night, I watched "The Two Mrs. Carrolls" (1947) with Humphrey Bogart and Barbara Stanwyck. Interesting!

Humphrey Bogart is pretty bad in this, but he was already famous, so I guess it didn't matter much. Everyone else was good. I especially liked Anita Sharp-Bolster as the housekeeper.

The paintings in the movie were done by John Decker, who was born with the much more exciting name Leopold von der Decken.

It is based on a 1935 play by the same name written by Martin Vale (a pseudonym of Marguerite Vale Veiller).

Interesting side note: Elisabeth Bergner was doing this play on Broadway in 1943 when she employed a young fan as an assistant, who later when on to undermine her life and career. Bergner told Mary Orr the story, who turned it into the play "The Wisdom of Eve" (1946), which then became the movie "All About Eve" (1950) starring Bette Davis.
