Demon Copperhead

I just finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Wow! That was really good!

It was extra fun reading this so soon after reading David Copperfield. I'm sure it would have been a good read some time after reading David Copperfield, or even having never read David Copperfield at all, but with everything so fresh in mind I think I probably got a lot more out of it.

Spoilers ahead (for both Demon Copperhead and David Copperfield.)

It's interesting reading this way. Like, you know Dori, Hammerhead, &c. are all doomed, but you're not sure how it's going to happen. Waiting for parallels is different from just reading a story.

And some things changed in importance. The Uriah Heep and Mr Mcawber plot point seems huge in David Copperfield, while the similar point with U-Haul and McCobb seems fairly minor. It happens, but it's less significant.

And Demon and Angus don't get together until the very, very end. Like, I was beginning to wonder if it was going to happen at all!
